Residency Interviews
Interview Day
All of our interviews for the 2025 MATCH will happen virtually this year via Thalamus Video. We are offering a variety of dates with some morning and afternoon options to accommodate applicants from various time zones. Maryland is in the Eastern Time Zone and all events will be scheduled according to our local time. If you’re in a different time zone and confused, you can double-check the time difference through a converter.
The interview experience will encompass a maximum block of time of 6 hours. Your specific agenda will be sent to you ahead of your scheduled interview date, but here is what to expect:
The first hour will include a welcome from the Program Coordinator and explanation of the logistics of the day, followed by a presentation from the Program Director.
The next five hours will be a combination of one-on-one interviews with faculty, small group meetings (the order will vary by candidate), and breaks where you do not meet with anyone.
Each candidate will have a 15-minute one-on-one interview with the Program Director.
Each candidate will have two 25-minute one-on-one interviews with two different faculty members (50 minutes total).
Randomized groups of candidates will meet with the Department Chair for approximately 45 minutes.
Randomized groups of candidates will meet with a few of our current residents for approximately 45 minutes.
The breaks you have in your day will vary based on scheduling. You will not be engaged for the entire 6-hour interview day. We give you the span of time so that you may plan ahead, but your schedule will include segments of unscheduled time.
There is no final “wrap up” or concluding session for the interview day. After the last item on your agenda is done, your interview experience is complete!
Many of our primary faculty members participate in the interview process. Our schedules take into consideration the available time of the faculty and are made far in advance of the start of the season, so we cannot guarantee that any specific faculty member will be available to meet with you on your scheduled interview day. You can see the list of our primary faculty members, including interests and bios, here.
Please note: We discourage the sending of ‘thank you’ notes from candidates and do not provide the contact information of interviewers. We recognize that you are just as thankful for your interview as we are that you are interested in us! Do not feel obligated to a send a note; we do not track who sends them and they have no bearing on our rank order list. However, should you have further questions or conversation related to your interviewers, please reach out and we’ll get you in touch.
