Policy on outside observers and shadowers

(as reviewed at neurology faculty meeting June 2023) 

Faculty cannot independently accept outside trainees for “shadowing” or “observership” positions. 

Our educational mandate is to train our own med students, residents, fellows.   Our inpatient and outpatient clinical areas are frequently crowded and therefore the trainee assignment schedule is made centrally.   

If faculty identify someone who might warrant special consideration i.e., relative of UM faculty member, truly outstanding individual, exception for underrepresented minority, or other, please send a request to Dr. Crino and Dr. Cronin to review. We may allow a very limited number of outside observers to maintain learning space for our internal students, residents, and fellows.
