UMMC Graduation Year: 2028
I grew up in Busan, South Korea, and moved to the U.S. during my 9th grade in high school. Maryland became my second home as I finished my undergraduate and medical school studies and am now continuing my residency at UMMC. My interest in neurology stemmed from my close relationship with my grandmother, who had Parkinson’s disease, and my neurologist-mother. I also found the intricate relationship between brain structure and human function and the concept of localization based on history and neurological exams fascinating.
The University of Maryland Medical Center was my top choice for several reasons. The neurology department at UMMC has a supportive and family-like culture amongst residents and faculties, which I experienced first-hand as a former medical student. Maryland also provides rigorous training, given high patient volume, high acuity, and diverse pathology, where I can get my foot on the ground and be trained well to be an independently functioning neurologist. Baltimore, Maryland, also serves a diverse patient population, including the medically underserved and immigrant communities, whom I hope to continue serving throughout my career.
Outside of work, I have many hobbies, including traveling, camping, hiking, cooking, and painting.
