I lived in upstate New York my entire life up until residency. I grew up in Rochester, NY and completed undergrad and medical school at the University at Buffalo. I loved my time there but was ready for a change when it came to choosing a residency program. The University of Maryland Neurology Residency Program was not an obvious choice for me when applying. It was geographically close to family, but I had never been to Baltimore and didn’t know much about the city; however, from the first resident I met at the pre-interview dinner to every faculty member and resident I interacted with over my interview day, immediately made me feel comfortable and demonstrated the supportive/collaborative environment this program fosters. From that day, UMMC moved to the top of my list and I couldn’t imagine training anywhere else. Aside from the family-like environment I have experienced since being here, UMMC is a tertiary medical center, so you really get exposed to a wide depth and breadth of diseases. Additionally, I have felt privileged to be able to care for an underserved community in Baltimore and have learned more than I could have imagined (medically and socially) from every patient.
Outside of work, I have enjoyed finding new areas to explore/hike in and surrounding the Baltimore area, hanging out with friends, baking (and sharing baked goods with my colleagues), watching TV and overall just relaxing.
