My interest in Neurology started in one of the first anatomy lectures in medical school, learning how the brain's regions and pathways all were related to a specific function, how processing the array of sensory input sublimates into consciousness was fascinating to me. Throughout medical school, I became more involved in neuroscience but wanted to keep an open mind as well.  However, by the time I started clinical rotations, the neurological examination solidified my interest in neurology. Having the ability to localize a pathology with a great deal of confidence just at the bedside without the aid of any imaging studies was very empowering and set me on a clear path to become a student of neurology. Following medical school, I went on to work in neuroimaging research but eventually returned to pursuing a clinical career.

In choosing a training program, it was important to me to find an institution where I would have academic exposure, as well as a tertiary-level of neurological care that will provide me with a solid clinical skill set. Having lived in multiple cities in the United States, Baltimore was one of my favorites, and I wanted to return to live there.

University of Maryland checked all those boxes for me. As a resident, I have autonomy in managing complex neurological cases with the support from seniors and faculty. Clinical and didactic learning is highly prioritized in a collaborative and safe discussion environment. However, the thing that makes the most impact on me every day is how the residency program feels like a family; you can easily find support around you, and there is a collegial spirit that is hard to find elsewhere.

Outside of work, I do a lot of cooking and baking with mostly successful results. I am currently learning American Sign Language, and I enjoy outdoor activities with my dog at some of beaches, trails, and mountain retreats close to the city.
