I was born and raised in Quetta, a beautiful valley in southeast Iranian plateau of western Pakistan. I went to medical school in Baluchistan and during clinical rotations I realized the lack of evidence-based medicine practice there. I am an advocate of scientific research and use of new ideas/evolving biomedical technology to improve healthcare. I participated in quality improvement and community awareness projects. I realized that lack of scientific data and organized clinical research centers are major contributors to our poor health care systems. This realization reinforced in me a passion for pursuing medicine with the most honorable intentions from excellent institutions.
After relocating to the US, I started my career at the University of Maryland (MD Stroke Research Center) as an epidemiological research assistant. I was fortunate to have excellent mentorship at UMMC that motivated me to pursue a career as a physician-scientist. I chose University of Maryland for training because our faculty is sincerely invested in resident teaching. We have ample opportunities for clinical and basic sciences research, moreover, it feels like home.
I am a sports enthusiast. I play squash, field hockey, and cricket. I love road trips, biking, hiking, kayaking, and boxing. I volunteer on weekends for a non-profit clinic in Baluchistan. I enjoy reading philosophy, psychology, and theology.
