Hello, this is the new and improved Matthew (J.) Woodward. Besides a brief time living in Kentucky when I was born, I've lived practically my entire life in Pennsylvania. I grew up in Downingtown (about an hour west outside of Philadelphia) with my family and at times upwards of 10+ pets (fish, parrots, cats, dogs, bearded dragon, etc) thanks to my mother being a veterinarian. I went to Penn State for college and studied biology with a neuroscience option. I also joined the boxing team for my four years and was team treasurer/officer  for two of them. After college, I took a gap year to earn some income and travel before being accepted to Drexel University College of Medicine. I matched to Maryland for both internal medicine prelim and neurology and started in the summer of 2018. I moved in to a town house in Fed Hill with a friend from college.

I chose neurology because of a long time fascination with the brain. I read Oliver Sacks' "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" in high school and was immediately hooked. I went into med school very confident I would pursue neurology. I also think of neuro as a frontier in medicine with so much potential for future discovery, whether it is in neurocognitive, stroke, or otherwise. It's a very exciting time to be a part of neuro.

Outside of neurology, I enjoy exploring what Baltimore has to offer between the bars, breweries, music venues, etc. I also like to rock climb when I have the free time, as well as reading, finding a good obscure TV show/movie on Netflix or any number of other streaming platform, and mindlessly browsing the internet. I also am a regular at trivia most weeks, when time permits, and a point of pride is my team's frequent appearances in the semi-finals most every quarter (although that's usually a far as we get).
