I grew up in Rhode Island and first became interested in the brain and mind when I was in high school. I was fascinated by the idea that a person’s decisions, behavior and overall functioning could be localized and understood, so I majored in neuroscience in college. There I also played field hockey, sang in a gospel choir and did a multiple short-term public health and social service jobs. I knew I wanted whatever I ended up doing to benefit lower income communities. Between these experiences and shadowing physicians, I decided I would do that through medicine. Following a gap year with AmeriCorps, I started medical school. Eventually, I chose neurology and matched at the University of Maryland.

I chose to pursue neurology because I couldn’t shake that initial curiosity with the brain. I liked doing a physical exam that had immediate diagnostic value and appreciated the connections I made with patients during my neurology rotation. Though I am challenged daily, this passion continues to fuel me. I also greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve an underserved population at Maryland and hope to live up to the doctor I dreamed of being. I’m glad I matched at here and can benefit from the early autonomy and good training required for me to become an excellent generalist and serve a variety of patients. I am genuinely grateful for the support I have received thus far, from senior faculty to my coresidents.

Outside of the hospital, I enjoy cooking and baking, playing board games with friends, painting, getting to know the city, and finding a good show on Netflix.
