My interest in neurology started during my freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My first research mentor was a neuroscientist who had a passion for teaching and shared with me her great love for the field. Although I initially did research on Drosophila flies, this passion carried on as I pursued medicine.
I attended medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Although, I explored other specialties, my love for neurology was solidified during my clerkship rotation and sub-i. Due to most neurological diseases being chronic, I was able to witness the strong bond and long-lasting relationships that my attendings cultivated with their patients. I loved their enthusiasm in each of their subspecialties and how this translated to their great clinical skills.
My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease while I was in medical school and taking care of him and seeing his relationship with his neurologist cemented my choice in pursuing a career in neurology.
