My interest in neurology was kick-started as a neuroscience major in college where I gained an appreciation for both how focused yet broad the nervous system is. It was also in college when my dad was admitted to the hospital following a seizure as a result of an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. While I already had been exposed to the brain in the classroom setting, this was my first interaction with clinical neurology. From my daily interactions with the neurology team during that time, I gained an appreciation for the field of neurology itself; learning the importance of listening to a history, the nature of a detailed exam, and often times counseling a family throughout a difficult discussion.
My time at UMMC has been met with outstanding and engaging faculty, support from the close-knit group of residents, and from the hospital system as a whole. The training I have received thus far has allowed for early independence and confidence in my decision making. I plan to pursue a stroke fellowship and have been supported by the department with research opportunities and connections nationwide.
Outside of neurology, I enjoy eating through my growing list of restaurants and bars Baltimore has to offer, as well as taking day trips to surrounding cities and vineyards. At home I’ll either be trying my hand at a new recipe or planning out my next big trip. Being from Chicago, I am inherently a huge Bulls and Cubs fan (who may or may not have cried when the Cubs won the World Series).
